Diets rich in whole grain foods and low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol may help reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers.

How many grains should you consume daily?

The amount of grains you need to eat depends on your age, gender, and level of physical activity (see www.mypyramid.gov). Most Americans consume enough grain-based foods, but few of these are whole grain foods. At least one-half of all grains eaten should be whole grains.
